Our district and ELAR department is really big on self- selected text. "You need to have them reading 20 minutes a day a Self Selected Text". Well that is fine and dandy when you have a big library to get books from, or you have time for them to go to a library to get books but when you have limited resources and limited time getting books for "self selection" is not high on your list. My Book Buddies project would allow my students to select new books and in most cases share the reading experience with a friend or buddy :) Paired reading is an activity that I have observed and want to foster because of the rich kid directed conversation about the books that I hear coming from the buddies. Right now they are having to borrow from the different classes or different grade levels to get the same books. My project would make it a little bit easier for those that want to continue this Book Buddies book talk adventure that they have created to get the same books and newer more interesting books.
