I work in an inner city public school in Oregon. I teach second grade. The students I have come from a variety of cultures and speak many different languages. The common thread between them is poverty. Class sizes are large with 27 to 32 students. Some of my students have special needs such as autism, learning disabilities or don't speak English. Others have been to as many as 7 schools since kindergarten. Even my students who are not identified with special needs often cannot read, write or do simple math problems. We no longer have classroom assistants to help. I am spread thin. I wish that I could devote as much time to each of my students as they deserve. One of the ways that I can help my students learn is with the use of technology. They will be able to go places instantly without leaving the room. Students can learn about different subjects interactively.
