I need a greater selection of culturally responsive books for read aloud time that better reflect the diversity within my room. Many of our classroom books are outdated and only feature characters that are white. My class is comprised of students from five different countries. We spend all year focusing on our class community and honoring our differences. However our books don't have characters or themes that reflect the many cultures within our class community. My students aren't able to see themselves in many of the books we currently have. This project will greatly enhance our class library by providing books to engage my students. These books will not only be "mirrors" that reflect the students in my class, but they will be "windows" which will give students views of new and different lives unlike their own.
