My students come from all over Houston to attend this high school in particular. 80% of my students come from high poverty, but they are able to come across the city by bus to attend this school through a magnet program! I have already seen reluctant readers fly through several books in a row, just in the few weeks we have been together! My students like all types of books, and they are always asking me for book suggestions. If I had a classroom library, I would be able to suggest great books for them to read, hopefully keeping their interest up on reading! This is the only opportunity some of these kids have to be able to have a book of their own for a while. Most of my students can't afford a new book every month, so this will give them the opportunity to experience all types of books for free. I can already see a change in my students reading habits, and it makes teaching worth while!
