They tell us that the country is failing to produce numbers sufficient enough to fulfill its economic potential of high tech innovators. We are now bringing in needed professionals from other countries. Supposedly, the causes stem from weaknesses in our schools, inadequate funding, and declining interest in research. Well, my students are interested in gaining information through Internet inquiry, and I am ready to fuel their passion! My school has been hit hard in the current economical crisis. We were able to make great gains last year on the state test and I would like for this to continue. Experts agree that students who participate in inquiry based learning perform better on tests and demonstrate greater cognition of concepts due to highly memorable, inquiry-based activities. Our school programs must provide opportunities for students to develop understandings and skills necessary to function productively as problem-solvers in a scientific and technological world.
