I have a most amazing class. Each day I am lucky enough to come to school and help students with moderate to severe disabilities defy the odds and learn complex skills. Currently I have students in 5th and 6th grade. My students have an exceptionally hard time when it comes to math skills. Many have short term memory deficits and find it hard to keep numbers straight in their head. Being able to supply each of my students with a calculator would make a world of difference. By learning how to use a calculator many doors in both the educational and working world would open up for them. As a special educator my biggest goal is to make a more independent student. Calculators could provide this much needed independence.
