Most of our kids come from broken homes with low income. In fact, over 87% of them qualify for free or reduced lunch. Our district provides all the kids with a free breakfast. In addition, we send home backpacks with food in them for the kids to eat over the weekend. We strive to take care of their basic needs, so that they are able to attend to the task of learning in comfort. For some students, however, they are unable to get everything they need from the regular classroom environment. We provide numerous avenues to make sure that no child falls between the cracks. I work with the students on many different social and academic skills. We do get some parent involvement, but it is limited to the home environment. We have very few parents able to volunteer in the school. Our kids are bright, with some issues that need more assistance. We can make a difference together in the quality of their lives, their future.
