Many of our students missed Pre-K in schools last year, so kindergarten is their first experience with “real school.” I want them to grow their love of reading in a natural way. The children love to select their own reading material, and I have selected books that my five- and six-year-olds can read both in and out of the classroom. There are emergent readers with pictures guiding the sentences as well as leveled readers. I have also included familiar and favorite titles that they can both read at school and take home to read.
