I am privileged enough to teach an amazing bunch of children. They work hard and strive for excellence. They are motivated to learn and do their best. They aim to please. I believe these characteristics are embedded in these children by their parents. Most of the children in this New York public school I teach at come from underprivileged families. Their parents are mostly immigrants from other countries. Many do not even speak the English language. These families have come here in search of a better life for their children and to make sure they receive an education. It is instilled in these children from the time they are very small that school is a top priority and should not be taken lightly. They expect their children to come to school and do the right thing. They want them to succeed in life. When you are lucky enough to work with children who are respectful and want to do their best, as a teacher, you want nothing more than to help them succeed.
