I teach a 3rd grade class in a suburban area located in Pennsylvania. My students are eager to learn new things everyday! Each of my students face different challenges inside and outside the classroom due to their diversity. I would like to help them overcome some of these challenges by providing them with a classroom library full of a variety of books. My classroom participates in school wide program known as DEAR (Drop Everything and Read), therefore everyday we literally stop what we are doing and read silently for 15-20 minutes. The students cherish this time and if we don't have time for it, they continue to ask me when we will be having DEAR time. I really hate telling them that we have to skip a day because we have so many other things we have to cover!
