We are a large elementary school located in Texas. Much of the community and student population are Hispanic and African American; and many of our students come from low-income households. In our school community, many of our students come from single parent households with two or more children. Many of our families function in survival mode on a daily basis and regularly go without the bare necessities. We often hold food drives, toy drives, and raise money for our families in need. We also provide shoes, backpacks, household goods, school supplies, uniforms, and other clothing items for our students. Some of these items are donated by corporate sponsors, and often times our own staff will generously give what they have so that our students will have what they need to be successful. Our students are faced with many challenges from day to day. Despite these challenges, our school has served as a safe place for our students to learn regardless of their circumstances.
