I work in a Special Education classroom for children with with severe physical and mental disabilities. My students are excited and eager to learn. They are persistent and are the hardest workers I've ever met. Many of my students have Down's Syndrome which causes them to have very low muscle tone. This makes fine motor tasks difficult for them. With daily practice their muscles can be strengthened. They need hands on manipulatives to build their fine motor skills so that they will be able to do many of the basic functional tasks that you and I can do so easily.
