I have 10-15 RSP students on any given period per day who want to pass the CASHEE exam, but struggles with percentages or fractions. Many lack the basic skills of mathematics; with calculators students can get past the basic elementary addition, subtraction, division and multiplication and understand the process of how to calculate percentages, fractions, etc. With calculators the frustration is reduced because an everyday tool is provided. Many also hate the paper/pencil task and will have to erase multiple times before getting a correct answer. With the erase board and markers, students will not be frustrated to try again, a quick erase and rewrite will solve the problem. Also, at this age, students can be competitive, with the erase boards we can do easy time drills and the class can compete as a whole, individually or pair/sharing. Making math fun!
