For a little kid, learning how to add and subtract can be challenging without a firm understanding about how numbers work. Having taught First grade for 14 years, I am anxious to start the 2015-2016 school year well equipped with the essential learning tools that will assist me in facilitating young, enthusiastic minds to meet these learning challenges. First graders are eager to learn and enjoy hands-on activities. These activities aid in students grasping new concepts and practicing important skills. My school serves students of low socio-economic status. Many of our students receive free or reduced lunches. My school does what it can to provide for our students and families, but there is a need for materials and resources to meet the demands of the Common Core classroom.
