Autism Speaks website discusses how many individuals with autism have lower fitness skills compared to other people. These skills include balance, body coordination, visual-motor control and other mobility skills. This year I have noticed that my class of all boys is really in need of movement opportunities throughout the day. My aim is to provide them with functional movement opportunities that teach them some fitness skills so that they can learn important motor skills as well as offering them more appropriate ways of meeting their sensory/movement needs. I have also found that having to return to school after being home learning remotely for so long has been challenging for many of my student sensory needs. I am seeking to gather some materials to help better meet their movement and sensory needs so that they have a more optimal state to learn new information and skills.
