My students are third grade children who live in an urban environment in Illinois. They unfortunately do not have a lot of school supplies, especially books that will challenge them to be great readers. Many of my students came to school this year with out any school supplies at all. Even though they do not have all the materialistic items that we want all children to have, they have amazing qualities that I get to see in the classroom everyday. They are so appreciative of the teacher for just showing up at school every day. They also appreciate when the teacher creates a fun an engaging learning environment in the classroom. For most of them, school is the very best time of their day. My students are very creative and have great imaginations. Their creative minds help them indulge themselves in books that capture their imaginations. They have fallen in love with fictional reading materials that help them escape from the reality that goes on around them every day.
