Through authentic learning activities, students establish an understanding and master curriculum far better then just reading out of a textbook. The Ecological Genetics project will expose students to genetic and ecological lab experiences that will provide them hands-on opportunities to connect the textbook to real-world events. Students will explore their own ecosystem through the soil kit along with examining owl pellets that can be found on the farm and inspect corn that is grown in the fields surrounding the community. Using a microscope, the students will be able to see their findings beyond just using a hand lens.
