It is critical for students with sensory processing deficits to have a safe place to regulate their sensory needs. A hanging chair and a saucer chair will provide my students with an age-appropriate space to sit alone and decompress during challenging times throughout the school day. Giving the students the opportunity to disengage from an over-stimulating event can renew their focus and support learning. The sensory systems that process information are the building blocks to many other skills. Once my students have de-escalated from sensory overload, they are better able to access strategies to apply to their learning. With your support, we can create an environment that promotes self-regulation, fosters independence, and provides increased accessibility to the curriculum.
