My fifth grade class consists of 26 public school students, half of whom are academically above grade level. Too often, it is the advanced student who is left to fend for him/herself. In fact, these are the very students who often require extra attention to prevent misbehavior and inattentiveness due to boredom. About 80% of the students in my school are from the neighborhood, so the school is a source of pride. In addition, the majority of families are very involved in the education of their children, which is a primary contributor to the success of these students. From teachers to students, parents to administrators, the circle of ownership in my school has led to one of the most positive school cultures I have ever been around.
