The students in my class range from just turning 7 to turning 8 over the next month. The school itself is at minimum 75% poverty level. It is a public school in a large city in Massachusetts. The students are wonderful but are in need of lots of support. They are each unique in their own way. Due to the range in academic achievement, setting up a fabulous listening center would help alleviate some behavior problems in the class. Most behaviors come about because a student cannot keep up academically. When students are listening to a story they think it is just fun but they are building fluency by seeing and hearing words that are read to them. We try as a school to instill lots of independent learning and this would support my classroom.
