Triangles are used in the music classroom for many different reasons. The Kindergarteners often choose the instrument to play a steady beat on. The students relate the instrument to the shapes that they are learning in their math unit. In First Grade, triangles are used to create sound effects when creating soundscapes such as lighting candles or snowflakes falling. In Second Grade, they are used to discuss how to classify ideophone instruments. All grades use them to perform rhythm patterns that they individually compose. Currently, my students have to share the five triangle instruments in my classroom. Purchasing additional instruments to make a class set would allow the students more time to individually create and explore. They would not need to wait for the instruments to be sanitized, wiped down, and shared.
