As a science teacher, I am constantly having to keep up with my material and bring the greatest and latest information to my students! My students also need ways to access that information on their own. This is where technology comes into play. There is not a day in the classroom that I don't try to infuse technology into my classroom experience, but I fall short due to a lack of resources. Our school lacks a functional computer lab where teachers can take their classes and carts that are available are often used by the reading teachers for district-mandated reading programs and testing. These laptops will help students complete virtual labs/simulations, but most importantly these computers are needed for data analysis, communication, and technology skills in order to adequately prepare students for the future. We complete labs for every topic in biology. Our content is divided into 24 topics...which we do a lab for each. Imagine the possibilities these laptops can offer our students. Not just in the areas of data analysis and virtual labs/simulations, but also presenting their data and communicating their results! And we are not limiting ourselves to PowerPoints.... I want them to communicate their results by building websites, blogs, and using any adequate web tool that can help them be better communicators of science.
