Some of my students have Sensory Processing Disorder (SID), a disorder in which their bodies do not appropriately process signals from the senses. Students with SID have a very hard time performing everyday school activities like eating lunch in the cafeteria or staying focused to complete a task. Because of this disorder, my students need extra support and tools to help them be successful in a general education classroom. Some of these tools include fidget toys, alternative seating and flexible schedules. By providing these tools and strategies, I can teach my students how to appropriately respond to situations and events that may trigger unwanted behaviors. The rocking chair, Stabili-T-stool, Air Stability Wobble Cushion, and Gaiam Stay-N-Play Balance Balls will be wonderful alternative seating for students. Allowing students alternative seating options is a great tool to help them overcome stressful situations. The stress balls and squeeze toys will help students stay focused during whole and small group time. The Bouncy Bands is a great tool I can attach to a child's chair to help him/her stay focused while working independently.
