Many of my students are reading well below their 8th grade level. They do not have parents at home reading to them. I have students that have learning disabilities that hinder their progress. They are a fun group and enjoy reading current events. We live in South Florida and reading can be a challenge when there are so many more exciting things to do than to read a book. Many of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Few have any books at home, nor do they read magazines.
