We are a fairly new public school district that is only 9 years old. My fourth graders this year made impressive scores on 3rd grade state testing last year, and I want to see them do the same in their 4th grade year. With Common Core Curriculum changes, our state testing is beginning to change also. Over the past few years I have seen the area of being knowledgeable and aware of current events not only locally but globally to be a weakness. This group of students are already showing so much interest in the world around them. I feel that Scholastic News is a perfect tool to responsibly expose my children to the current events of our world today. Our district just completed construction on several new school buildings. Obtaining funding was a long fought battle that has paid off, but the little extras are harder to provide right now.
