Our school is a hidden treasure in Georgia. We are a unique school in that we are a Title I school, a school of a military town, and yet with our economically disadvantaged students and transient military kids, we have some of the top test scores in our county. Our teachers work hard to provide the best education possible for these kids, which many times means purchasing resources out of their own pocket. Nearly 80% of the students receive free or reduced price lunch, and we have a high male population. I have found that music is an awesome outlet for my students to be expressive and successful. We literally use 20 trashcans as drums so that we are able to have a drum class. Our kids are respectful (miliary influence) and have a true sense of self pride. However, living in a "tough" area of town sometimes seems discouraging. Our task is to let our students see their potential and provide every opportunity other schools and students are afforded.
