Our school is a public school in Blue Island which is a town neighboring Chicago. The community here is at a very low poverty level. Almost every student here receives a free breakfast and lunch. Most of our students are Hispanic and many are just learning English for the first time at the ages of 5-9. Encouraging literacy is HUGE at our school and there is always a lot of pressure on the teachers with meeting AYP through test scores so our school does not close down. Luckily, our team here is very dedicated to this cause.
