My kids come from a low income background, but that is a very small part of who they are. More importantly, they are smart, and resourceful, and clever and hilarious--they make me laugh every single day. They are tough and street-wise, but they are vulnerable and sensitive, too. They are also struggling with change; our school has recently been declared a science magnet school and that, along with the new Common Core standards, has made for a very different school setting. They are struggling to adjust to the changes around them, but they possess the perseverance and fortitude to come through the other side!
