My students are second language learners and have a deep desire to speak and learn the English language. Many times these students are quiet and reserved in class because they do not yet have the confidence to speak fully in English for fear of embarrassment in front of their peers. Attending my class is crucial to their comprehension of academic language in the classroom and in order to get a better grasp of the English language. Our school is one of the largest in the district and one of the most economically challenged. We are a Title 1 school with many low income families and not a lot of resources to help in the school, especially a program that is not a regular classroom. Although, many of the regular classrooms have been able to get various types of technology in their classrooms through fundraisers, my classroom receives funds from other sources and is very limited.
