My students come from a very tough neighborhood in Queens, New York. Because these children are often concerned with issues that are foreign to most seven year olds, their focus is not always where it needs to be. Learning becomes extremely challenging for them. Money is very scarce. Parents have difficulty providing healthy snacks, lunch, supplies and clean uniforms. I have great difficulty getting parents involved - very few are concerned with their child's education. My goal is to create an environment where my students can escape these hardships. This year I have a wonderful group of twenty-two students that are ready to learn! Due to limited resources available at my school it is extremely hard to meet the needs of all my students. More than half of my students are English language learners; they need manipulatives and engaging activities that make learning interactive and provide motivation for future learn
