My students come from a severely impoverished neighborhood where drugs, alcohol and violence face them each day after they leave the safety of their school and embark on a journey home that exposes them to experiences that no child should have to endure. My students come to school wanting to learn and to forget about the struggles they face once they return home. Even though our school is old and run down, the teachers work hard to make this Title 1 school as warming and welcoming as we can. These students know that they are in a school where the teachers genuinely care about them, their education and what the future has in store for them. Even though my students are considered "at risk", they deserve the very best education that can be provided to them. They come to school looking forward to the new and positive learning experiences that have been developed to enhance their learning. They work hard and do the best that they can with the little resources afforded to them.
