My students all reside in one of the poorest areas in the south Bronx. They range from kindergarten to eighth grade. Our special education school caters to students with a multitude of handicaps such as Down syndrome, deafness, echolalia, cerebral palsy, depression, and emotional disturbances. Many of our students have very low skill levels in the areas of reading, writing and math. Some don't know the alphabet, are unable to retain counting systems, and physically may be unable to manipulate educational tools. Many haven't been very successful throughout their educational careers. Due to these struggles, many students have shown disbelief that they are capable of learning. However, plenty of my students are excited to learn science, as my program is truly a hands on experience. Due to budget cuts, my resources are limited and my own personal funding is low. Technology will help to enhance the quality of learning.
