Remember what it was like when you were in school? Imagine if you didn't have the necessities to keep up with daily instruction. Well, that is what it is like for my students. We spend daily instructional time with little of the technology that is required for day-to-day instructions. I have a group of inquisitive 6th grade students who demonstrate that they care about their grades and work hard to improve them. They are attentive in class and work hard from the start of the morning bell until it is time to go home. Although the majority of my students are from low-income families, they still arrive with the desire to learn as much as they can. Poverty is an issue that more and more of my students are faced with. The price these students of poverty must pay is unbelievably high. The rise in the number of students in poverty has contributed to making our classrooms more diverse than ever before. This has indeed made both teaching and learning more challenging. Our students deserve to have every opportunity to become College and Career Ready students.
