My students are on average one to two grade levels behind in reading and writing, due mostly to their language barrier. The majority of my students are English Language Learners. Our school is in a high poverty stricken area with 70% of the school being Hispanic. Many of my students are facing poverty, limited English, and learning disabilities beyond their control. By the time they reach third grade, they begin to be taunted with the thought of giving up. With your help and support, I can inspire my students to overcome the obstacles they face and strive to meet their potential. Reading not only can become an escape for them, but it can also open doors they never thought imaginable.
