I support children with autism in a special day class. My goal is to integrate them with their general education peers as much as possible. Hosting a weekly art day is the perfect way to facilitate meaningful interactions between my students and their peers. They can be creative, think critically, relax, and have fun. Kids with autism often have difficulty interacting socially. Art days will boost their confidence and provide opportunities to make new friends. As American artist Roy Lichtenstein once put it, "Art doesn't transform. It just plain forms." Art education is critical for our students' development.
