I have a wonderful class of 30 third grade students. Twenty-two of them are BOYS and eight are girls! We are all LEARNERS and LEADERS. It is still early in the year and with this difficult ratio we are not good at our routines yet, but for 30 of us to line up quickly or transition to a new station with the right book and supplies will take more practice than usual. Many of my students come from difficult home situations and so supplies and homework are not a priority. Therefore we maximize every minute of the day with engaging learning activities that motivate and ensure that all students are growing as learners. I expect them all to be quality producers and do their best work and to my delight they are stepping it up. I love teaching this age group where they get into reading chapter books. I'm always at the secondhand stores and libraries hoping to find those just right books that inspire them to read and be able to talk and write about what they are thinking and learning.
