We are a public elementary school in Texas. Our school is an economically disadvantaged campus. Our students range in age from 4 to 10. Our students are very positive and love to be involved. There is a strong sense of community and pride. Many of our students do not have access to technology or information outside of the school. In our school, we strive for as much community involvement as we can. Last year, the week before Thanksgiving Break, we had our first annual "Turkey Trot." For the Turkey Trot we reserved the high school track, played inspirational music over the loud speakers and staff and students participated in a Walk-A-Thon to promote exercise. We try to get vendors to come out and hand out prizes and information on health. The teachers walk the track with the students. We invite parents and grandparents to the Turkey Trot. The administrators, office staff and support staff all come out and participate. Our children loved it and responded well to it.
