My high school is an urban high school with around 85 percent from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. While most of my students are still children, they are facing adult circumstances. They often have to take care of their own family and work to put food on the table. Yet, they come to school everyday with a desire to graduate from high school and eventually attain meaningful employment. Some students are becoming active contributors to the school culture whether it be through participating in the show choir, playing football or aspiring to be in the military. By improving math skills, we can open even more opportunities for my students.
