My students are digital natives who are ready and willing to incorporate technology into our daily classroom routine. They are excited by trips to our school's computer lab, but frustrated that we can only attend the lab for one hour each week. Many of the students have access to technology in their homes and backpacks (smart phones), but spend their days in a classroom with limited technology. It is as if my tech savvy students spend each day in a digital desert. The students want and need access to technology that will allow them to develop the digital literacy skills they will need in their future. My classroom typically has 34 busy students who are eager to create digital projects and access our web based learning programs such as our ST Math program with the Mind Institute. With limited funding and consistent budget cuts, our school district is not able to meet the need for technology.
