My students come from a diverse sub-urban community who vary economically, linguistically, and in heritage. We are Americans from Lithuania, Mexico, Uzbekistan, China, Korea, Vietnam, Russia, France, Ireland, Paraguay and seemingly all points geographic. They attend a public middle school with a dedicated staff. This is the sixth graders first step into a larger school world of over 1100 students. The Core classroom with almost three hours of time provides a crucible for learning and caring. Because of our limited access to technology, almost all of it funded by donations and grants, students often work in small groups to create video book reviews and imovies of their own scripts. Creativity and cooperation are valued traits and require both time and practice. As a group, we are committed to challenging ourselves technologically and creatively all the time.
