I teach over 250 6th, 7th, & 8th grade middle school students from a title 1 district. Some of my student have limited English skills, live in a low income area, with large barriers to over come when competing for a job in the future. I hope by teaching students sewing techniques they can gain specialty skills to be able to move beyond language barriers, diversity, lack of income, and be productive citizens with added confidence to one day enter the work force with life skills. More than 85% of the students in my classroom have never held a needle and thread in their hand or worked along a sewing machine! I want to teach my students essential sewing skills.
