In order to develop more functional skills in my students and make learning more purposeful, I would like to create a sensory area for them in my classroom. Oftentimes, students with autism have increased anxiety and therefore need help coping with it. One way to reduce anxiety and stress is to provide sensory breaks. Sensory breaks allow students to relax, de-stress and refocus their attention. A sensory area will help my students reduce their stress and increase their ability to focus and pay attention within the general education classroom.
