During this time of the pandemic, my young first grade students have struggled with some big emotions. Expressing emotions can be hard for all of us but especially for these young ones who are not sure what is going on. Help me give them a way to give them a way to express themselves through art and music. Talking out our feelings can be overwhelming for kids and art provides a safe, fun, and creative way to express how one is feeling. Students in my classroom will use crayons, colored pencils, markers, water colors, and other art supplies during S.E.L. lessons that discuss and teach how to express emotions. They will also use these supplies as they draw pictures and learn to write about them during our language arts curriculum. Some of my students often find themselves feeling overwhelmed, and the headsets will allow them to listen to calming sounds while working. This will help get them back on task without disturbing their peers. When we feel safe and can express our emotions it allows us to improve our mindset for learning.
