I work for a Title I public school in Florida located in a low income immigrant area. All my students are Hispanic, and come from all over Latin America and Spain. What is special about my students is that they are immigrants; some of them arrived two months ago, others a number of years ago. Their families are making a huge effort to adapt to this wonderful country but that is, at times, stressful. To help my students I try to make school time as fun, consistent, and pleasant as possible. On the one hand I make sure that every morning students are allowed to share their thoughts on anything that may be bothering them: we share feelings, fears, and hopes. On the other hand, I make sure that my students learn through hands-on activities. Sometimes they work by themselves, sometimes they work in pairs, and sometimes they learn through whole group activities.
