My yearbook staff consists of high school seniors and juniors who attend a low income school in urban Louisiana where school morale is very low. Despite the fact that these students constantly watch their school get mentioned in the news over and over again in a negative manner, they are still determined to rise above those negative images. Thus, they are very hard workers who fight everyday to overcome the negative stigma associated with their school's history and reputation. These students care enough to try anything to help boost school morale and get their fellow students to invest in their surroundings and give back to their environment. My students believe that by creating a wonderful yearbook that highlights positive aspects of the school, then they would be able to help change the city's belief and expectations regarding the type of students that attend the school.
