I have a very interesting mix of twenty-two talented first graders. However, they are performing below grade level and are at risk of failure. This is due primarily to the fact that most of the students are living at or below the poverty level. The school these children attend is located in the inner city of Brooklyn,NY. More than 20% of the children are from families who live in homeless shelters. One-hundred percent of these children qualify for free school meals.
