My children attend a great public school. They are a diverse group of children ages 3, 4 and 5 with special needs. Each day they come to school bright-eyed, bubbly and full of energy. They love to explore and to touch. They wonder at small things and at everything around them. They can't express themselves as much as they want, but they do show emotions and ideas in so many ways. My students wonder about the world around them. They delight in discovering new things, from a running squirrel that they see in the playground to that little grain of sand in their sandbox. They are always busy and on the go, finding joy in little things: beans that spill as they pour them from one container to the other, that little plastic ant they get from their mystery bag, the soft feel of their stuff toys. It takes so little to make them happy. Some can't talk but their eyes and mumbled words say it all. In each of my children lies the man to be, like that butterfly in a cocoon, waiting for the right time to spread their wings.
