My 7th grade students attend a very rural, high poverty, mostly Caucasian public school in West Virginia. On the very windy road to their school, they drive past beautiful fields as well as a few horses, cows, and plenty of deer. The middle school houses grades 6-8 and is connected to the high school, which houses grades 9-12. Many of my students only read when they're forced or instructed to; most have not yet found that reading can be fun, enjoyable, and interesting!
