We are a rural community in Stockbridge, Michigan. We have four hundred students in our third through fifth grade school. Fifty-two percent of our student population has been labeled "at-risk." Our school is addressing those needs by developing an entrepreneurial approach to education. Our fifth grade Remote Operated Vehicle ROV team last year was a group of all girls and placed third in the state-wide ROV competition. We created a before school STEM program focusing on ROVs and the demand to attend was so large that we had to have a lottery. The attendance to that program was one hundred percent. Our community supports arts and music and our elementary students receive both weekly. At our school, it is just as cool to win a robotic competition as it is to throw a touchdown pass.
