My students range in age from preschool age to fifth grade. They attend school in a large inner city district. These students are eager learners and enjoy learning about rhythm through experimenting with classroom percussion instruments. However, my students lack the opportunity to perform meaningful melodic music. The experience of playing recorders is a meaningful way for students to engage, practice and perform music as a performer might.
